The police chief of a small Texas town has been killed while executing an arrest warrant.
Authorities say Elmendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel was killed Saturday. The mayor of Elmendorf, a small town located about 25 miles southeast of San Antonio, said in a news release that the subject of the warrant opened fire, striking Pimentel once in the shoulder and once in the abdomen.
A 24-year-old man is in custody and will face a charge of capital murder of a police officer.
Elmendorf Mayor Evelyn Lykins said in the news release that police and Bexar County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting.
Lykins said Pimentel had been police chief there for more than a year.
