Texas Report Takes No Stance On Controversial Execution

By KRWG News

Texas – A state panel looking into the investigation of a fire that killed three children continues a painstaking review of its initial report that recommends more education and training for fire marshals. But the report takes no position on whether faulty arson science sent the children's father to the Texas death chamber.

Cameron Todd Willingham was executed seven years ago for setting the 1991 blaze at his home in Corsicana, south of Dallas.

The Texas Forensic Science Commission is reviewing its 47-page draft report for a second day Friday but declines to rule on the quality of Willingham's investigation until the Texas attorney general's office rules whether it has that authority.

Death penalty opponents led by the New York-based Innocence Project question arson investigators' testimony that led to Willingham's lethal injection.
