Third Fort Bliss Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Identified

Private First Class Cody James Towse was the third Fort Bliss Soldier killed in the IED attack in Zharay, Afghanistan on May 14.   Private First Class Towse was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss. 

Towse is survived by his parents.  He was 21 years old.

Towse was born in California, but was most recently a resident of Elk Ridge, Utah.  He was a Combat Medic who entered the Army from Salt Lake City, September 2011.  He received Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.  He arrived at Fort Bliss, his first permanent duty station, in March of 2012.

Fort Bliss officials said that William Joseph Gilbert and Mitchell Kirk Daehling, both 24-year-old specialists from Fort Bliss, and 29-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker, a Hesperia, Calif., resident based at Fort Stewart, were also killed in the attack.

Five other Fort Bliss soldiers were killed by a roadside blast in early May in Afghanistan.
