Three Arrested In Tortugas Beating

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies, along with assistance from the U.S. Marshals, have made three arrests following the investigation of a robbery that left three people severely beaten.

The suspects in custody are Devin Bustamante, 24, Julian Flores, 23, and Cody Amezola, 23.

The three are charged in connection with an alleged robbery that happened in the 3700 block of Emilia Street during the early morning hours of Sept. 23, 2013.

According to a report, the three suspects allegedly entered the Tortugas home with the intention of robbing the residents. The suspects then reportedly tried to subdue the victims with pepper spray before beating them with baseball bats. Two victims were adults and the third was a 15-year-old boy who was asleep on the couch at the time of the incident.

The boy was taken to an El Paso-area hospital after the incident. He has since been released and is reportedly recovering from his injuries.

Investigators believe there is a connection between the suspects and the victims and say the incident was not random.

Bustamante is being held at the El Paso County jail awaiting extradition in lieu of bond. Amezola was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center and has since been released. Flores remains at the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

Investigators are seeking indictments on all three suspects on charges related to child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and conspiracy.
