Three-Year-Old Las Cruces Boy Dies In Fire

An early-morning residential structure fire on the city’s East Mesa has claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy.

The young boy’s parents – his 23-year-old father and 21-year-old mother – were able to safely escape the blaze along with their 7-month-old daughter.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, Las Cruces firefighters were dispatched to 7742 Charro St. on the city’s far East Mesa where they found a single-wide manufactured home on fire. Firefighters learned the two adults escaped the blaze along with their 7-month-old daughter, but were unable to reach their young son.

Firefighters made entry into the home and located the young boy who was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The fire was subsequently extinguished but the manufactured home was declared a complete loss.

American Medical Response personnel provided care for two of the occupants of the home but their injuries were not serious and they were not hospitalized. No other injuries were reported.

The names of the deceased and his family will not be released at this time.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The Las Cruces Fire Department received assistance from AMR, the Las Cruces Police Department, and from the Las Alturas and Dona Ana fire departments. The Red Cross was also called and is assisting the family.
