Las Cruces Police issued 15 citations during a one hour traffic enforcement project along a school zone Wednesday afternoon.
Working from 3-4 p.m. along south Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, near Centennial High School, traffic officers issued 13 citations for speeding and two to drivers who could not show proof of valid liability insurance.
The citation for speeding through a school zone carries a fine of $162. A citation for no insurance requires a mandatory court appearance.
The Wednesday, March 12, traffic enforcement project was initiated following a complaint of motorists driving through the school zone above the posted speed limit.
The Las Cruces Police Department plans similar traffic enforcement projects in the near future.
