Tom's Shoes Founder Speaks In Las Cruces Thursday

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A widely known philanthropist and entrepreneur will speak in Las Cruces this week.

You may have seen him on a popular AT&T commercial or during a profile on 60 Minutes.

Blake Mycoskie, the founder and "chief shoe giver" of TOMS Shoes, will be the featured keynote speaker at the 2010 Innoventure competition, sponsored by New Mexico State University's Arrowhead Center.

The yearly competition will be held Thursday at the Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces, with Mycoskie speaking at 7 in the evening.

His presentation is free and open to the public, but requires a ticket that can be obtained online at this website:

Mycoskie's firm, TOM's Shoes, is an online business that provides a pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair sold on the website.

Innoventure encourages students to use science, engineering and business skills to solve problems. This year's theme was chosen specifically to complement Mycoskie's social entrepreneurship efforts. Students were instructed to make self-contained kits for children their age or younger who live in "extreme circumstances."
