Town Hall Meeting held during National Alcohol Awareness Month

April is Alcohol Awareness Month and it’s the perfect time to talk about the dangers of underage and harmful drinking. El Paso nights are heating up, welcoming more outdoor festivities and party planning around events like prom and graduation. According to SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health, many adolescents and full-time college students use substances for the first time during the summer months.

According to a new report from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, alcohol is the leading drug among El Paso youth. According to the report, Underage Drinking in El Paso - A status report, 56% of 12th graders and 30% of 9th graders said that alcohol was at “most or all of the parties they attend”.

Prevention providers from around the city have teamed up to host an upcoming Town Hall Meeting on a Social Host Ordinance that will be implemented in June 2017. This town hall meeting is to inform the community about the civil Social Host Ordinance that was adopted in December of 2016, the first of its kind in the state of Texas. It will hold adults accountable for providing an environment where underage parties take place.

The Town Hall meeting will feature a panel of experts who will cover specifics of the ordinance. The meeting will be held:

April 26, 2017 at 3:00PM - Education Service Center - Region 19 on 6611 Boeing Drive
