Trademark Office Clears Rail Runner Express

By KRWG News

New Mexico – The New Mexico Rail Runner Express can continue to use its name and logo.

Officials with the commuter train announced Tuesday that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office determined the Rail Runner met the agency's requirements for official trademark registration.

Gov. Bill Richardson says the trademark decision is a huge victory for the people of New Mexico.

Lawrence Rael, executive director for the Mid-Region Council of Governments, says the train's name and logo were designed with taxpayer money and the agency's decision protects the public's investment.

The train began operating in July 2006 between Belen and Bernalillo through Albuquerque. Service to Santa Fe started last December.
