Las Cruces--- A Third Judicial District jury deliberated less than an hour to find Robert Holguin guilty of Trafficking Controlled Substance (by possession with intent to distribute); a 2nd degree felony and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On September 6, 2014, a Las Cruces Police Department Officer conducted a traffic stop on Mr. Holguin in reference to improper display of temporary registration. The officer soon realized Mr. Holguin was driving with a revoked license.
The keys to the vehicle were located on the floorboard along with two cigarette boxes containing four glass meth pipes, a digital scale, 1.63grams of methamphetamine and numerous plastic bags with white residue.
Due to the amount of methamphetamine located in the vehicle and on Mr. Holguin’s person he was charged with Trafficking Controlled Substance (Possession with Intent to Distribute).
Prosecuting Attorney Clara Cobos requested that Chief Judge Fernando Macias sentence Mr. Holguin as a habitual offender. Judge Macias agreed with the state and Mr. Holguin was sentenced to 4 years and was immediately taken into custody.
District Attorney Mark D’Antonio stated, “The arrest and prosecution of drug traffickers is one of the most effective tools to keep drugs out of the hands of our kids.”
