Commentary: As Donald Trump prepares to meet with House Speaker Paul Ryan this morning in Washington, D.C., the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) pointed to the fact that both Ryan and Trump are pushing the same divisive and dangerous agenda — not unlike Governor Martinez’s, which has already hurt thousands and thousands of New Mexicans.
Chaos is the Republican party has even the most influential Republicans distancing themselves from their presumptive nominee.
“The Republican Party is in chaos across the country. Even here in New Mexico, Governor Martinez confirmed her attendance to the GOP National Convention, leaves New Mexico to campaign for Republicans across the country, and still sidesteps questions about where she stands on Trump.” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party. “The New Mexico GOP has endorsed Trump, and Republicans across the state will follow his lead. It’s time for Governor Martinez and Republican candidates in the state to play it straight with New Mexicans and either stand with Trump or against him.”
Speaker Ryan, like Governor Martinez, continues to try to distance himself from Donald Trump. Trump, Ryan, and Martinez share the same beliefs, priorities, and backwards agenda. They want to give huge tax cuts to the rich, believe in the trickle-down economic policies that preceded the economic downturn in 2008 and continue to hurt families in New Mexico.
