Two Plead Not Guilty In Fatal Shooting Of Border Agent

Two men from Mexico have pleaded not guilty in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Border Patrol agent during a family fishing trip in South Texas.

Gustavo Tijerina-Sandoval and Ismael Vallejo were being held without bond Wednesday in the Willacy (WIL'-uh-see) County case.

Both pleaded not guilty Tuesday to capital murder and attempted capital murder charges in the Aug. 3 slaying of Agent Javier Vega Jr. of Kingsville. His father was also shot but survived the apparent robbery attempt at a remote fishing spot near Santa Monica.

The suspects were found in a shed in nearby Sebastian after the homeowner summoned authorities. A gun believed used in the shootings was recovered in the yard.

Vallejo also pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and to five counts of aggravated robbery.
