Commentary: Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall announced that he will be holding a conference for New Mexico businesses of all sizes on Feb. 21, at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, to help business leaders and entrepreneurs learn about ways they can take advantage of international trade opportunities. Titled "Growing New Mexico's Economy—Exporting to Global Markets," the all-day conference will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about regional developments that impact them, network with fellow business leaders and attend a resource fair where they can get one-on-one advice from experts about how to address challenges and seize market opportunities.

The conference will feature presentations from specialists who will share their expertise on executing successful business strategies, finding available resources, and building strong international partnerships, as well as panel discussions led by industry professionals, trade experts, resource partners, and New Mexico companies that have successfully increased the exports of their products or services.

"One of my top priorities as United States Senator is helping businesses in New Mexico grow. To build a 21st century economy, create good jobs, and retain a vibrant, young workforce, we need a thriving business sector," Udall said. "New Mexico companies are at the forefront of science, technology, and innovation, but I want to help more businesses take full advantage of opportunities to increase the size and variety of our exports. Approximately 95 percent of the world market lies outside the United States; expanding exports and increasing access to international trade opportunities is essential to helping New Mexico businesses of all sizes succeed. As a member of both the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee and the Foreign Relations Committee, I am proud of New Mexico’s business community and excited about this opportunity to help our companies expand to global markets."

Udall is cosponsoring the conference with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Border Industrial Association.
