UNM Gives Feds Requested Information On Sexual Assault Policy

The University of New Mexico has given numerous documents to the U.S. Department of Justice, which is investigating how the school has handled reported sexual assaults and sexual harassment of students.

The university said that it turned over its report by the Friday deadline to federal officials.  The document includes copies of university guidelines, procedures and training to deal with incidents involving sexual violence or harassment.

The university says in a statement that officials are confident they will show the school's commitment to creating a safe campus.

The Justice Department announced Dec. 5 it would review the school's practices for prevention and investigation of sexual assaults and harassment.

It's not known if any particular cases prompted the federal review.
