UNM Students Offer Ideas To Spruce Up Route 66

Albuquerque officials now have food for thought on ways to spruce up Route 66 through Albuquerque.

University of New Mexico architecture and planning students are submitting ideas that include creating covered walkways over Interstate 25 and adding more parks and open-air markets along Central Avenue.

According to television station KOB, the idea is to create spaces fostering interaction among people.

Mayor Richard Berry says the city will examine the ideas and start thinking of ways to implement the best ones that are most practical.

The city provided the university with space downtown to hold the class called City Lab.
