UNM Suspends Frat Due To Alleged Sexual Assault

An alleged sexual assault at a fraternity house has prompted the University of New Mexico to direct the fraternity to suspend most chapter activities pending an inquiry.

A letter sent by a university Dean of Students Office official accuses the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity of student code of conduct violations due to the alleged April 2 sexual assault.

The letter says the fraternity must suspend all chapter activities except for chapter meetings and normal house activities while the suspension is in effect.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that a university police report says detectives have conducted interviews concerning the alleged assault and that a suspect has been identified.

The report says evidence has been sent to the State Crime Lab for examination.
