A massive fire that followed an explosion Monday morning in the small village of San Pablo is still under investigation by Doña Ana County fire investigators, who say damage estimates could top more than a quarter of a million dollars.

County fire crews, along with assistance from the Mesilla Fire Department and Las Cruces Fire Department, were called to the 4200 block of N.M. 28 near Carver Road just after 10 a.m. on Nov. 23. Despite arriving within 5 minutes of the initial 911 call, firefighters reported two commercial buildings were engulfed, along with a small storage shed on the property.

There were no injuries reported. All structures on the property are considered a total loss, and damage is estimated at $250,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the family who lived on the property is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
