UPDATE: Possible Road Rage Shooting In Las Cruces

Las Cruces Police are continuing to investigate Thursday evening’s road rage incident that resulted in gunfire and injury to a 30-year-old man.

The man received a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. He remains hospitalized there Friday in critical condition.

Police believe the incident began sometime after 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. Witnesses described a pickup and automobile engaged in aggressive driving on the city’s East Mesa. Investigators believe the incident came to a head in the vicinity of Rinconada Boulevard and Settler’s Pass when one of the men involved produced a handgun and fired at least one round, striking the 30-year-old man.

All parties involved in the incident have been identified by police. Interviews are still taking place and no charges have been filed at this time.

Anyone with information on this incident that may be relevant to investigators is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.

As part of the investigation, police temporarily blocked traffic in and out of the Rinconada subdivision along Rinconada Boulevard, and between Roma Drive and Settlers Pass. LCPD thanks area residents and motorists who displayed patience during the road closure.
