UPDATE: Suspended Student Found; Administrators Placed On Leave

The father of an 11-year-old Albuquerque boy who went missing after being suspended from school says the boy has been found at his grandparents' house.

The boy's father told KOB-TV his son was located Wednesday morning in Socorro.

The school district says the 11-year-old was among six students at Jimmy Carter Middle School who were suspended Monday for smoking marijuana. But the boy's father says he was never notified of the suspension and his son never came home.

According to district spokeswoman Jacqueline Costales, policy requires school officials to notify a parent or guardian about a student's suspension. Officials say the school's principal and dean of students are on paid leave while they investigate whether they followed policy in allowing the boy to walk off campus.
