UPDATE: Victims Attacked By Border Agent Came From Honduras

A diplomatic official says three people kidnapped and assaulted in South Texas by a Border Patrol agent had come from Honduras.

Karol Escalante, a spokeswoman for the Honduran embassy in Washington, D.C., says the women are a mother, her underage daughter and another female minor who is not related to them. She also said the three are recovering at a McAllen hospital, but would not elaborate on their injuries.

The FBI believes agent Esteban Manzanares is responsible for kidnapping and assaulting the three. Authorities found two women who had escaped from an attacker and a search led them to Manzanares' home. Authorities heard gunshots, and when they entered Manzanares' home they found him dead and rescued the girl.

The FBI has said the three were in the country illegally.
