On Thursday, White Sands Missile Range will conduct a series of intermittent roadblocks on U.S.Highway 70 from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this time a large number ofmilitary tactical vehicles will periodically be moving south to north across the highway at mile marker 174 just south of the WSMR access road.
These large, slow moving military vehicles are part of the ongoing Network
Integration Evaluation 12.2 being conducted at WSMR. The roadblocks are to
allow the vehicles to move across the highway and ensure the safety of the
motoring public. These 20 - 30 minutes roadblocks will go on throughout the
day and be closely monitored by WSMR police. Motorists are asked to travel
through this area with caution.
"These are a bit different than our typical WSMR roadblocks, but should only
slow motorists down for a few minutes. Safety of the public and all the NIE
participants is, as always, our primary concern," said WSMR Public Affairs
Specialist Cammy Montoya .
