USDA Helps With Charter School Expansion Near Taos

  USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner was in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico yesterday to participate in the ground breaking ceremony to begin the construction to build new classrooms at the Anansi Charter School.  

During the event, Brunner said, "USDA has invested in Anansi Charter School in the past and we are pleased to come back again to support their expansion.''  He added, "This community understands that investing in education is an investment in our children's future. he growth of this school symbolizes that this community is vibrant and growing.''

USDA Rural Development will provide a $1 million loan and a $50,000 grant to help pay for the $1.5 million construction project.  The funding is being made through Rural Development’s Community Facilities which was created to provide funds for community facilities and equipment.

Once completed Anansi Charter School will offer elementary and mid school classes from kindergarten to eighth grade. The improvements to the school include a 4780 square foot building for the new middle school grades 6-8 on the existing Anansi Charter School campus.

The new building will include a library/ computer lab that serves the entire campus population.

Also a science and art room, a 7th grade classroom, an 8th grade classroom, two tutoring rooms,  two ADA accessible restrooms for the students and an ADA accessible restroom for staff will be built.
