UTEP Campus Evacuated Due To Anonymous Threat

Due to an anonymous threat, The University of Texas at El Paso closed Tuesday at 2 p.m.  UTEP Police Chief Cliff Walsh said about an hour after the threat that the campus was considered safe.  Faculty, staff and students evacuated the premises. Please do not remain on campus. Administrative operations and classes for this evening are cancelled. Normal operating hours will resume on Wednesday

Few details were immediately available Tuesday but a university text sent to students and staff said, "The university has a bomb threat please evacuate the university campus."  The message was sent about 2 p.m.

Campus spokesman Chris Lechuga told the El Paso Times that, "There is a threat and we are asking everybody to evacuate."

He would not specify the threat.

A student told the Times that police were swarming the school.
