Valley Drive Closure Thursday In Las Cruces

Las Cruces: The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) along with Dona Ana County Teen Court continues with their annual DWI Shattered Lives simulation, which will be held at Mayfield High School on Thursday April 21, 2016.  A section of Valley Drive will be closed from 9:00 am until 10:30 am in order to reenact the crash.

The Shattered Lives program was established to bring virtual awareness to the community and students regarding the consequences involved with DWI incidents. A simulated crash is scheduled for Thursday April 21st which will occur in front of Mayfield High School off Valley Drive at 9:00 am. Selected students of Mayfield will participate to illustrate the damage that is caused, and the impact families face due to the loss of a family member.

Detours will be posted alerting motorists to seek an alternate route along Hoagland Road, Isaacks Lane, Mayfield Lane, and for large oversized traffic they will have full access at Thorpe Road. The closure will be directly in front of the High School and these detours will be necessary in order to properly filter traffic through. Students, staff and emergency responders are fully aware of the scheduled events.

With Prom and Graduations celebrations these next few weeks the NMDOT and members of Dona Ana Shattered Lives would just like to remind the public that one life lost is one too many. In addition, the agencies would like to acknowledge the courageous people who will be sharing their painful stories with students, staff and the community at Mayfield High School. The NMDOT, Governor Martinez and supporting groups such as Dona Ana County Teen Court will continue forward with their efforts in bringing awareness to the public regarding DWI and texting and driving.
