Very Low NM Individual Health Insurance Enrollment

Federal officials report that not quite 200 New Mexicans have signed up for health insurance plans through a federal online marketplace plagued with technical problems.

The Department of Health and Human Services released enrollment figures on Wednesday for the first month of operation of a federal health insurance exchange that is used by three dozen states, including New Mexico for signing up individuals. A state-run exchange handles enrollment for small businesses.

The agency said 172 individuals in New Mexico signed up for a health plan offered by a private insurer through the exchange. About 4,055 applications have been completed.

Overall, 4,249 New Mexicans were found to be eligible to enroll through the marketplace and 3,552 individuals were determined by the exchange to qualify for Medicaid.
