Veteran And His Family Receive A New Home

The Freedom Alliance at U.S. Bank teamed up to help a veteran relocating to Las Cruces receive a mortgage free-home.

Retired Army Sergeant Nick Hinds and his family opened the door to their new home for the first time, with hugs and happy tears, and kids excited to run around their new backyard.

Sgt. Hinds, who suffers from neck injuries and PTSD, says he’s excited for his family to have a home for his family to start the next chapter of their lives.

“It’s going to be great to be in a stable environment,” Hinds said. “And to be somewhere where I feel comfortable and where my family feels comfortable. And the kids are already in school and they love it and they enjoy it.  To be around this area, and just and to just have the opportunity to thrive is going to be great.

Thomas Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance, says a home to a veteran is more than just a place to live after being deployed.

“You sleep in the dirt,” Kilgannon said. “You sleep in foxholes, you are away from your family. Community ties, structure, something called a home is not to a career military person as it is to many of us in the civilian world, and so this home is going to bring this American Hero stability, comfort, and the pleasure and the community of the great people of Las Cruces.”

Mary Ann Hinds, says after years of moving around the country, she is happy her kids have a place to call home.

“That my babies will never have to say goodbye to friends,” Hinds said. “My babies will never have to pack another box, and the have their whole future here. In one school, and their same friends, and it’s going to be amazing for them.”

Sgt. Hinds says he appreciates being able to provide his family with a sense of security.

“With Freedom Alliance and US Bank,” Hinds said. “Just affording me this opportunity to provide for my family, in a better situation then I could ever possibly imagine is the most greatest thing to me.”

This is the 7th home nationwide provided through the program.
