Acting Veterans Affairs Secretary Sloan Gibson is visiting El Paso's VA medical center to meet with officials and discuss how to improve veterans' access to health care.
During his Friday visit, Gibson will meet with the VA Health Care System leadership, employees and others to hear about the problems they still face.
U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, an El Paso Democrat, says he hopes to set goals with Gibson to improve veteran's access to health care.
Gibson's visit comes in the wake of a scandal over falsified VA record-keeping and months-long wait times for appointments with doctors at veterans' facilities. A VA audit showed facilities in El Paso and Texas in general had some of the longest wait times for medical appointments.
