Truth or Consequences – Virgin Galactic wants to launch tourists into space. But it also knows that customers willing to fork over $200,000 for the opportunity will want to stay in luxury digs while they're on terra firma.
That's led to an effort by the British company to partner with third parties to build a luxury hotel near Spaceport America.
The idea has some residents in Truth or Consequences wondering why they're paying taxes to support the spaceport if a new hotel will keep their existing businesses from profiting off space tourism. The Las Cruces Sun-News says the hotel concept was announced last week by a Virgin Galactic executive.
Others say it is clear a new hotel is needed and it will bring needed development to the region.
