Volunteers Sought To Help With Las Cruces Area Veterans Trip To D.C.
By KRWG News
Las Cruces – On Oct. 7 and 8, Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico will take their third group of World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II Memorial. None of these American heroes, many of whom are at or near 90, have ever had the opportunity to see "their" memorial before.
HFSNM still needs additional guardian volunteers to accompany the veterans on the upcoming trip. Guardian volunteers will assist the veterans during the trip to and from the Washington, D.C. area. Guardians must be physically able to assist the veterans and must cover their own travel and accommodation expenses of $850 or be sponsored to travel as guardians. Guardian volunteers with medical expertise are especially needed.
Those who have served as guardians on HRFSNM's previous trips have consistently lauded this uniquely meaningful experience. "Seeing the veterans' faces as they arrived at Dulles Airport and then saw their memorial was at the very top of the rewarding experiences in my life," said Pamela Creek, Honor Flight Board Member and Guardian during the 2009 trip.
The guardian application and donation forms are available on the Southern New Mexico Honor Flight Website at www.honorflightnm.com .
