Water Restored To Carlsbad Caverns After Massive Pipeline Burst Following Freeze

CARLSBAD, NM – Water was restored to Carlsbad Caverns National Park after 7,000 feet of pipeline burst during a freeze event over New Year’s weekend. The damaged pipeline was the park’s only source of potable water for the visitor center, office buildings and residential housing. The park has been without water for three weeks, except for lavatories in the cave.

Advanced Solutions Group, LLC of Kaysville, UT, replaced the 7,000 feet of broken pipeline with a temporary 4” bypass pipeline. The temporary line has been disinfected, flushed, and the water has been tested at a water quality laboratory. All park services have been restored and there are no water restrictions.

Because the temporary bypass line is susceptible to freeze damage, a project to bury the line will break ground in the next month and scheduled to be completed by early May.
