White House Sends Assurances To Abbott Regarding Syrian Refugees

http://gov.texas.gov/

Obama administration officials have responded to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's concerns about accepting Syrian refugees, saying federal screening is "extraordinarily thorough and comprehensive."

The letter sent to Abbott says most refugees accepted by the United States are families, children and victims of torture. Federal officials say they don't plan to accept more than a handful of adult males without children or families.

Abbott is one of more than two dozen governors who have said they will not accept refugees from Syria following the deadly attacks in Paris earlier this month.

The U.S. has announced it will accept 10,000 refugees over the next year.
