Join Native American artists from New Mexico in the visitor center courtyard for artist’s demonstrations and craft show from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 5th. Guest artists will demonstrate how they create their handcrafts and explain the history and meaning of their artwork and crafts.
Invited artists include Raul Davis from the mountains of the Mescalero Apache Reservation. Raul brings unique ledger art to life on one of a kind documents dating as far back as the 1800s. Scott Garnaat, from Zuni Pueblo, will demonstrate his craft of fetish carving. Featured in New Mexico Magazine and other publications, Scott is well known for selecting unique stones to bring his animal carvings to life.
Watch, learn and experience the creative process as these talented artists demonstrate their crafts. Artists will demonstrate and sell their artwork from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. The program will take place in the visitor center courtyard. White Sands Trading will have a 15% off sale on all Native American handcrafts including jewelry and pottery just for this one day.
This event is a part of a series of programs that White Sands National Monument is hosting this year as part of the National Park Service’s Find Your Park campaign.
