White Sands National Monument Will Host a Mexican Craft Show and Sale This Weekend

  Alamogordo, NM – On Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th White Sands National Monument and Western National Parks Association will host a Mexican Arts Show and Sale in the visitor center courtyard from 10 am to 5 pm.

Vendors will have items for sale that highlight Mexico’s rich culture and beautifully expressed through intricate and extraordinary Mata Ortiz pottery, whimsical Oaxacan wood carvings, and vibrant Zapotec rugs from Northern Chihuahua and Oaxaca Mexico.  Visitors will discover a wide array of handmade items from Mexico for sale including museum quality pieces.

In addition to the sale, visitors may enjoy artist demonstrations, children’s activities, and showings of a film about the making of Mata Ortiz pottery.  Film showings will be at 10:30 am and 1 pm each day. Children’s weaving activity will take place between 10:30 am and 11:00 am and between 2 pm and 2:30 pm each day. On Sunday, Danzantes de Corazon de Alamogordo, a Ballet Folklorico group, will perform several dances between 11 am and 12 noon.

This event is a part of a series of programs that White Sands National Monument is hosting this year as part of the National Park Service’s Find Your Park campaign.
