White Sands Waives Entrance Fees Sunday

White Sands National Park

Alamogordo, NM. White Sands National Monument will waive entrance fees for all visitors on Sunday, March 17th to honor participants and their families in the 24th annual Bataan Memorial Death March. Families and friends of death march participants will be able to enjoy the day in the dunes while waiting for marchers to complete the course.

“Suspension of the entrance fees on this day is just one way White Sands can thank our military service members and their families who sacrifice so much to protect our country. A visit to White Sands or any national park offers an opportunity to unwind, relax, rejuvenate, and just have fun with their families,” stated Superintendent Marie Frias Sauter.

White Sands, including Dunes Drive, hiking trails, and picnic areas will be open from 7 am until 8:30 pm on March 17th. The visitor center and gift shop will be open from 9 am until 6 pm. Ranger programs for the day include a Map Talk at 1:30, Crafty Kids at 2:00 pm,  and Skins and Skulls at 3:00 pm. These programs are free of charge and take place at the visitor center. The final ranger program of the day is the Sunset Stroll. Join a ranger at 6:15 pm for a leisurely one-hour walk through the dunes and learn about the geology, plants, and animals of this unique area. This free program starts at the sign along Dunes Drive about five miles from the visitor center. For additional information please visit www.nps.gov/whsa or call 575-479-6124 ex. 236
