Wildfire Fully Contained

Mayhill, NM – Firefighters say a wildfire near Mayhill now is nearly fully contained after charring almost 9,500 acres.

The lightning-caused Lincoln Canyon Complex fire was detected Tuesday. It's burning grass and brush in steep, rugged terrain 17 miles northeast of Mayhill.

Crews continued patrolling and mopping up the majority of the fire Saturday.

It is now 97 percent contained at 9,431 acres.

About 70 firefighters are battling the wildfire with four engines, two handcrews and various air support remaining in the scene through Monday.

Resources include personnel and equipment from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs and New Mexico State Forestry along with Lincoln and Chaves counties.
