Will Loving, NM End Its Dry Spell?

It will be up to the residents of Loving whether the village's two restaurants will be able to serve beer and wine.

Business is booming in the southeastern New Mexico community, but the Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that local patrons now have to drive 12 miles into Carlsbad if they want an adult beverage with their meal.

The owners of Licha's Kitchen and Hacienda Los Navarette are seeking beer and wine licenses. One of them petitioned the village council for a special election to decide the license question. That election has been set for April 23.

Village Clerk Manuel Garza says he believes voters are in favor.

If voters approve, Garza says the village council will hold a public hearing before adopting a liquor license ordinance.
