Wilson Will Not Run For NM Governor

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Former Rep. Heather Wilson says she will not run for governor of New Mexico in 2010.

Wilson says in a statement Thursday that the governor's post has no significant national security role, which is an issue that is important to her.

She says New Mexicans have encouraged her to run for the last 10 months but her work in the private sector is satisfying.

Wilson last year gave up the Albuquerque-area 1st Congressional District seat after a decade to run for U.S. Senate. She lost to Rep. Steve Pearce in the GOP primary.

Wilson's decision leaves former state Republican Party chairman Allen Weh, state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones of Albuquerque, Dona Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez and Albuquerque businessman Doug Turner in the race for the GOP nomination.
