Winter Blast Hits New Mexico

The latest blast of winter weather to hit New Mexico has left roadways snow packed and icy and some schools have cancelled classes.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque warned Tuesday that travelers should expect significant if not major impacts across portions of western and northern New Mexico as snow continues to fall.

Forecasters issued winter weather warnings and advisories for much of the northern half of the state, saying a low pressure system was expected to sink further into southwestern New Mexico by Wednesday.

State transportation workers were out plowing and salting major roadways. Difficult driving conditions were reported from Taos south to Santa Fe and in parts of eastern New Mexico.

Classes were cancelled for schools in the mountains east of Albuquerque and in Chama.
