WNMU Athletic Director Announces Retirement

By KRWG News

Silver City – Western New Mexico University athletics director Scott Woodard has announced he will retire but plans to stay on as head softball coach as a part-time employee.

Woodard announced his retirement Monday. His last day will be June 30.

He says it has been a great 20 years, but he believes it's time for a change and time for someone else to take the reins.

Woodard spent more than half his life at WNMU as a student, athlete, coach and administrator. He also held nearly every job in the athletics department, including sports information, game management, compliance, eligibility and bus driver before being appointed as director in 1996.

Woodard received his bachelor's degree from WNMU while playing baseball for the Mustangs.

A national search for Woodard's replacement will begin immediately.
