WNMU 'Chicano Music Project' Holding Song Contest

A Western New Mexico University project aimed at producing a documentary on Chicano music in Grant County is holding a competition for a theme song.

The Grant County Chicano Music Project scheduled the songwriter competition Saturday to help select a winner. Feature finalists are Mark Gomez of the band Hell To Pay, George Montoya and Mando Cabrera of Friends Of The Underground, Marcos Quinteros of Los Alegrez, and Armando Ponce of the former band Yo, Tu, y El.

All four songs will be presented to a panel of judges and live audience.

The judges' choice will be announced on August 31 during the Chicano Music Festival.

The documentary will celebrate the history of Grant County Chicano musicians from the post-World War II era to the present.
