WNMU 'Chicano Music' Project To Present Findings

SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) — A Western New Mexico University project aimed at producing a documentary on Chicano music in Grant County is set to release part of its findings.

The Grant County Chicano Music Project's executive committee is slated Thursday to give a presentation on campus about plans for the upcoming historical documentary. The documentary's premier is slated for a fall of 2013.

Several Mexican American bands including Friends of the Underground and Illusion are scheduled to perform for the presentation.

The project's executive committee is contacting musicians originally from Grant County who are interested in participating by donating film footage and recordings.

Chicano Studies professor Patricia Cano and School of Applied Technology Dean Antonio Macias are collecting memorabilia for the project.
