A Salt Lake City woman who asked for a ride from a Las Cruces man and his sister was arrested after she allegedly stole a wallet and attempted to flee.

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 200 block of Union Wednesday evening after an affray between the siblings and Chastitie Clark, 24.

According to statements given to sheriff’s investigators, Clark approached the siblings on foot, asking for a ride. They agreed to take her to the closest convenience store, located in the 200 block of Union. When Clark got out of the car, the sister noticed her wallet was missing, along with her social security card and her children’s social security cards.  She then went inside the store to confront Clark. Inside the restroom, the victim noticed her wallet in the trash with all her cash and credit cards reportedly missing.

Clark attempted to run from the siblings, but they gave chase – on foot and in their vehicle. The sister eventually caught up with Clark, who reportedly tackled Clark to the ground.

Medical personnel transported Clark to a Las Cruces-area hospital, where she attempted to escape from deputies. Clark reportedly did not suffer any serious injuries and was then transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where she was booked on charges of concealing identity and larceny.

At the time of her arrest, Clark had an outstanding fugitive from justice warrant out of Utah. She is currently being held without bond.
