Woman Charged With DWI And Child Abuse

A woman suspected of recklessly driving while intoxicated, on a revoked license and with children in her car was arrested Thursday and has been charged with child abuse.

Amanda K. Dunagan, 25, is charged with one count each of negligent child abuse, aggravated DWI, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended or revoked license. Dunagan also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, Las Cruces Police were called to the 1300 block of Eucalyptus Drive where Dunagan crashed her Dodge Neon into a curb while taking her two children to visit their father. Police learned that Dunagan dropped off her two children, got into a physical confrontation with her boyfriend, and then drove away with a friend as a passenger and an infant in the rear seat.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Officers quickly located the Dodge Neon traveling westbound on Spruce Avenue and initiated a traffic stop. Officers noticed that its driver, Dunagan, was visibly upset and appeared to be intoxicated.

Dunagan submitted to field sobriety tests which she failed. Breath alcohol content tests also were performed on Dunagan which measured well above the presumed legal limit of intoxication.

Dunagan was arrested and subsequently transported to the Dona Ana County DetentionCenter with bond set at $10,292.
