Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing Credit Cards In Albuquerque

A woman has pleaded guilty to stealing and misusing credit cards from Albuquerque senior citizens.

Prosecutors say Ashley Martinez faces up to 45 years in prison when she's sentenced on Jan. 12.

The 28-year-old Martinez was indicted on 41 counts of taking advantage of elderly victims.

Prosecutors say Martinez went to many senior citizens' homes in 2013 and 2014 and fabricated stories about needing help or asking to borrow a phone.

When the victims would leave her alone in a room, Martinez allegedly stole credit cards or wallets.

Since some of the victims have died and can't testify, Martinez pleaded guilty Tuesday to 30 remaining counts.

The charges included larceny, theft of a credit card, unauthorized use of a credit card, and fraudulent signing of credit cards or sales slips.
