Women Charged In Las Cruces Motel Robbery

Las Cruces Police have arrested two women believed to be responsible for a robbery committed late Sunday evening.

Danielle Carbajal, 22, and Alexandra Matkin, 23, are both charged with one count each of robbery and conspiracy. Carbajal also faces one count of tampering with evidence.

Las Cruces Police learned that at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, Carbajal and Matkin conspired to rob the Imperial Sky Motel at 1865 W. Picacho Ave. Police determined that Matkin entered the motel, and seemed to survey the lobby and front desk.

Matkin then left the motel, and a disguised Carbajal entered and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register.

Detectives learned that as Carbajal was stealing the cash, the motel’s proprietor entered the lobby and saw what was happening. Carbajal is alleged to have pointed a handgun at the proprietor who retreated and called 911.

After leaving the motel, Carbajal proceeded to an alley where she changed clothing and discarded the toy handgun. Carbajal and Matkin then returned to the motel where Matkin entered the lobby and asked for a room.

Both women were booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $10,000 each.
