Young Man Dead Following Las Cruces Crash

Las Cruces Police are continuing to investigate Wednesday evening’s two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of young man.

Adrian “A.G.” Guerrero, 23, of Las Cruces, was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at Mountainview Regional Medical Center. Guerrero was the rear-seat passenger of a GMC Jimmy that was struck by another vehicle and rolled over near the intersection of Spruce Avenue and Triviz Drive.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, Las Cruces Police were called to the intersection of Spruce and Triviz where the crash occurred. Police learned that Guerrero was partially ejected from the Jimmy and, for a brief time, pinned underneath the vehicle. Witnesses to the crash assisted in lifting the vehicle and extracting Guerrero before first responders arrived.

Witnesses told investigators that Guerrero was not wearing a seatbelt.

Traffic investigators determined that the Jimmy was traveling behind a pickup with both vehicles headed east on Spruce. The truck and the Jimmy both turned left, or north, onto Triviz on a green light. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra was headed west on Spruce through the intersection. The Sentra struck the passenger-side of the Jimmy causing the SUV to flip into its side.

The 22-year-old man driving the Jimmy and his front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman, were transported to Memorial Medical Center with relatively minor injuries. The 22-year-old man who was driving the Neon was not seriously injured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and citations have not been issued at this time.
