Yvonne Flores Announces Run for Las Cruces City Council District 6

Yvonne Flores

Commentary: Yvonne Flores, a District 6 resident and community activist, has announced that she will seek election for the Las Cruces District 6 City Council seat.  Flores, an attorney and former educator, decided to run for the council seat after careful thought and consideration.

“I have been considering running for City Council for some time now.  After much deliberation, I have decided that it's my time to step up to the plate and help assure a high quality of life for all residents in Las Cruces and give the residents of District 6 the representation that they deserve,” stated Flores.  Her reasons for running are numerous. “As I look at the city of Las Cruces,” she said, “I see a city with many opportunities and new policies on the horizon that are key to the future of our city, and I want to be part of that future.”

Growing up in a middle-class family, Flores learned to respect all people and to believe that we all have an opportunity to improve our community.  “I want to see the residents of Las Cruces live a happy life” said Flores.  “I love Las Cruces, and I love the people here.  We are stronger when we work together, and that is the message that I want to convey to everyone in District 6.”

The daughter of a WWII Veteran, Flores spent most of her childhood in California where she also pursued her professional life as an attorney and educator.  Flores is a member of the League of Women Voters and served on the Greater Las Cruces chapter Board for two years.  She is also a member of the Sonoma Ranch South Owners Association and served on the Board for more than two years.  In addition, she is a member of Las Cruces Press Women, Mexican American Bar Association, and Latina Lawyers Bar Association.

The municipal election will be on November 7, 2017.  Absentee voting begins on October 11th and in person early voting begins on October 18th.
