Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico is currently implementing Real I.D. measures approved in 2005. The real id act requires states to issue driver's licenses that meet specific requirements as an effort to fight terrorism and reduce fraud. The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says the law will not protect Americans and will only create new problems.

Las Cruces, NM – Fire officials expect to extinguish a lightning sparked fire burning thirty-six miles northwest of Carlsbad by the end of the week. KRWG' s Marco Grajeda reports that as of this morning the fire was sixty-five percent contained.

Las Cruces, NM – This afternoon a number of local leaders held a press conference to voice their opposition to a house bill introduced last week by Congressman Steve Pearce. The bill is called the "Dona Ana County Planned Growth, Open Space, and Rangeland Preservation Act of 2008". However, as KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, critics of the bill say it's an assault on the county's wilderness, and will weaken environmental protections granted to places like the Organ Mountains.

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Department of Health Region Five Health Ffficer Eugene Marciniak, says there are several groups of people who are most vulnerable to heat related complications including children, the elderly and residents with mental health disorders.

The symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke include heavy sweating, often pale skin, muscle cramps, dizziness and fatigue.

Las Cruces, NM – A new poll released today shows a large majority of New Mexico voters support having Mexican Gray Wolves reintroduced onto public lands. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the poll was conducted by Research and Polling Incorporated, and of the 500 people surveyed, 69% support reintroduction, while just 21% are opposed.

Las Cruces, NM – Monday the El Paso County Commission passed a resolution asking Congress to permanently protect the Otero Mesa from oil and natural gas drilling and exploration. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the resolution cited the need to protect a large salt basin aquifer, which the United States Geological Survey estimates may contain as much as 57 million acre feet of water.
