Green Jobs Push

Las Cruces – A Las Cruces City Councilman will work with a group trying to bring new jobs to the state.

Fourth District councilman Nathan Small has been appointed to the steering committee for the Green Jobs Partnership in New Mexico.

Small was appointed during a Green Workforce Summit in Santa Fe .held in conjunction with the announcement of the Green Jobs Cabinet by Governor Richardson.

Initial goals of the Green Jobs Partnership are to secure funding for New Mexico from President Obama's stimulus package.

Teague Bills and Amendment get into Stimulus Package

Las Cruces, NM – Yesterday all three members of New Mexico's delegation in the United States House of Representatives voted in favor of the 819 billion dollar economic stimulus package. Senator Bingaman Thinks Stimulus Package Will Clear the Senate

Las Cruces, NM – With the United States House of Representatives passing President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package yesterday, the bill now must go through the Senate if it is to be enacted into law. 20 Million Dollar Bond Issue Renewal for DACC Growth and Development

Las Cruces, NM – Dona Ana County residents will vote Tuesday on a general obligation bond-issue that would fund multiple projects for the Dona Ana Community College. As KRWG's Eduardo Rodriguez reports, if approved the college would receive 20-million dollars in bonds, which officials say will be used to prepare the institution for an expected surge in student population.

Help for future teachers

Las Cruces – A program at New Mexico State University is helping students who want to teach science or math.

NMSU is offering students studying mathematics, science, engineering and technology the opportunity to receive extra help paying their tuition bills.

The Robert Noyce Scholarship is being offered to full time undergraduate and graduate students.

Recipients will receive $5,000 each semester for one year.

LC School Board Candidate: Gene Gant

Las Cruces, NM – Incumbent Third District Las Cruces Public School Board member Gene Gant has won his seat twice before and hopes 2009 will bring him a similar result. Las Cruces residents within the third district will choose between Gant and two challengers hoping to claim the position on the education board. Dona Ana County Commission Unanimously Passes Resolution in Support of State Domestic Partnership Bill

Las Cruces, NM – Tuesday morning the Dona Ana County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution urging state lawmakers in Santa Fe to pass a bill which would provide domestic partner benefits to both homosexual and heterosexual couples. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, County officials are hastily trying to get their resolution to Santa Fe in time for Wednesday afternoon's joint Senate committee hearing on the bill.

Dona Ana County Commission to Consider Resolution Strongly Encouraging Legislators to Pass Domestic Partner Benefits

Las Cruces, NM – Tuesday the Dona County Commission will vote on a resolution to strongly encourage the New Mexico Legislature to pass Domestic Partner legislation'. This would allow for both homosexual and heterosexual couples to register their partnerships and receive all of the benefits and legal obligations granted to married partners in New Mexico.
