North Korea Missile Explodes Within Seconds Of Launch, U.S. Says

North Korea fired a missile from its east coast Wednesday, in a test that appears to have failed in an explosion within seconds of launch, according to the South Korean Defense Ministry and U.S. Pacific Command. Both groups confirm the launch occurred at North Korea's air base in Wonsan. The ill-fated missile, which marks the country's third test of the year and second so far this month, is seen as a response to annual joint military drills by the U.S. and South Korea. "North Korea opposes...

Las Cruces, NM – Economic Development is a phrase used loosely by politicians and business leaders. It isn't always clear what they are talking about. The rhetoric, frequently coupled with notions of job creation and growth, acts like a steamroller through city hall and the state house to influence ordinances and legislation. One organization which seems to have the corner on the phrase "economic development" in Southern New Mexico is MVEDA, the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance.

Las Cruces, NM – Although the recent plea for more blood donations has been answered in part, supplies in southern New Mexico are still low.

A New Mexico Special Session Because...?

Office of the Governor

Commentary: This year the governor ignored most important things and says "she will call lawmakers back to the state capital to renegotiate a budget… without increases in taxes and spending. … if lawmakers don’t agree to her terms for more spending cuts, state museums will begin to close” (The Republic and others).   More “my way or the highway.”

Trump’s New Budget Will Harm Public Lands

Commentary: While I’m on board with reducing unneeded government bureaucracy as a general ethos, the 2018 federal budget that the Trump administration just released is beyond problematic. The most glaring slashes would hit agencies and programs that have been incredibly important to New Mexicans, our local economies, and our heritage of respectfully enjoying the outdoors.

An Inadequately Funded Judiciary is a Denial of Justice

Commentary:  For over a half-century since the height of the Cold War our nation has set aside May 1 as Law Day in recognition of America’s national commitment to the rule of law in our constitutional system of free self-government. Over the years, the importance of our commitment to providing equal justice under law has been tested and reconfirmed in the face of serious internal and external challenges.

Commentary: Santa Fe, N.M. - Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM), a statewide nonpartisan nonprofit that works to connect New Mexicans to their political power for a healthy Land of Enchantment, advocated for or against 82 pieces of legislation at the State Capital during NM’s 2017 Legislative Session. CVNM and our allies successfully defeated 100% of the anti-conservation bills on our agenda.

Spaceport America

Commentary: The failing Spaceport got a local state senator to introduce Senate Bill 429, the Spaceport Confidential Records Act, which would cloak the Spaceport in secrecy, supposedly to attract customers.
